Curriculum

Here, you can learn about the curriculum in our classrooms!

Language Arts

Language Arts consists of the areas of reading, writing, grammar and word study.

Students will participate both in whole and small group reading delivered through an anthology series, novels, and other appropriate text. Mrs. Bindus will teach both classes using the anthology, and both teachers will teach small groups. The anthology series is used to focus on skill development while chapter books are used to encourage discussion, comprehension, and other such reading concepts.

Students will participate daily in writing workshop.  Students are expected to use the writing process to publish writing pieces throughout the school year.  Skills will be taught throughout the year, as well as various traits of writing. Grammar is taught through mini lessons, focus groups, and individual conferences during our writing workshop time.  Mrs. Bindus will be the writing & grammar teacher for both Rooms 2 & 11.

Students will be placed in developmentally-appropriate word study groups.  Both Mrs. Bindus and Ms. Sabatino will instruct word study groups.
